at this time I'd like to recognize 2 schools for their attendance at this time it is my pleasure to recognize Public School 41 Martin Center for their achievement in attendance would you please come to the Forefront to receive your award trustees would you join me in celebrating their achievement still holding tonight 7 exceptionalists will proudly showcase their talent and dedication these students will present a heartfelt re recitation and dramatization of Remember by Joy harjo the first Native American American us poet Laurette and a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation harjo's powerful poem emphasizes the importance of remembering our shared history human connections and bond with the natural world the performance of fusion of recitation and dramatization reflects the creativity teamwork and hard work of our young Falcons students interpretation of harjo's Timeless message promises to inspire and Captivate all in attendance leaving a lasting impression please direct your attention to the stage for the students performance um hello my name is Deshawn Maynard I'm in the eighth grade and I'm going to be seeing hello in the native Navajo tone hello my name is Anisha h I'll be saying hello and the chicken sauce tribe chokma hello my name is Omar Johnson I'm in the eighth grade and I will be saying hello in a Cherokee tribe oo hello my name is l Monty Hicks I am in the eighth grade and I will be teaching you how to say hello and this is Sean tribe Banner hello my name is and I'm a seventh grade I'll be saying hello and Apache dagger hi my name is Jazelle Buckner I'm in the sixth grade and this is how women say hello in the Dakota and Lakota tribe Han hello my name is Mason Buckner I am in the third grade and this is how men say hello in the Lakota and Dakota try how um good evening everyone ladies and gentlemen I will be reciting the poem Remember by Joy harjo all right enjoy remember this that you were born on no each of the Star Stories remember the Moon no who she is remember the Suns birth at dawn that the strongest point of time remember sundown in the giving away tonight remember your birth how your mother struggled to give you form and breathe you are evident of her life and her mother's and hers remember your father he is your life also remember the Earth whose skin you are red Earth Black Earth yellow Earth white Earth Brown Earth we are Earth remember the plants trees animal life or have their tribes their families their histories too talk to them listen to them they are alive poems remember the wind remember her voice she knows the origin of this universe remember you are all people people and all people are you remember you are this universe and this universe is you remember all is emotion is growing is you remember language comes from the remember the dance mortgage is a life is remember
